SEO is not hard.

We thought long and hard about whether we should share all our secrets or not. Then we thought what the heck YOLO.

So here it is our top 30 SEO secrets which we swear by and will have your Google ranking improve in no time.

1) Install Yoast plugin (If you are running a WordPress website) and start adding page title and meta descriptions.

If you are running a WordPress website, it is always advisable that you install Yoast plugin as it not only helps you add page titles and meta descriptions but also helps with canonicals and setting up sitemaps for your website.

After installing the Yoast Plugin, add SEO Title, Slug (customized URL for page or blog), and meta description on your page or post. Embed your keywords in each of the three but don’t stuff it.

It will show like so on google:

Titles and meta descriptions tell Google exactly what the page is about and helps your page attract more traffic. If you don’t do this part, Google will not understand your website pages and will not direct traffic to you.

2) Find all the broken links on your website and remove them.

Broken links hurt your page ranking and credibility on Google significantly.

So what you want to do is find all the broken links on your website and remove them. You can use dead link checker to find all the broken links on your website.

Then once you know where they are, you must remove those links from your website.

Note broken links are interpreted by Google as an unmaintained site and you will be penalised if traffic if you have broken links.

3) Find all the 404 errors on your website and redirect them.

You can use free tools like atomseo to find 404 error pages on your website:

Once you find 404 errors, you should redirect these links to a live and a working page.

You can also use plugins on WordPress called Redirection which enables you to redirect broken links.

Like broken links, 404 errors are even more hazardous for your website, removing these and redirecting your 404 pages will create a smooth user experience for website visitors and Google will prefer to drive more traffic to you.

4) Set up google analytics so you can track the traffic

Google Analytics is an incredible data source to find out about traffic on your website. It helps you analyze which pieces of content are doing well, how much organic vs paid traffic you are bringing, and pages related data.

Setting up google analytics is simple. Search for “google analytics” on google and follow the prompts.

Note, if you are installing Google Analytics on a WordPress website, you can do it by pasting the code Google provides you with on your header or simply do it using a plugin.

Setting up Google Analytics will not affect your traffic directly, but it helps you understand where your traffic is coming from, which keywords are attracting the traffic and which pages are doing good. You can use this data to set a good strategy, which will then help your website get more traffic.

5) Set up google search console

Setting up Google search console is incredibly important as it helps you track which keywords you are ranking and struggling against.

It also helps you find out any issues with your websites like indexing issues or irregular activities. If you fix all issues quickly you will always find yourself higher in ranking positions.

The easiest way to set up Google Search Console is to first set up Google Analytics and then set up Search Console by verifying through Google Analytics. This way you can do it quickly in seconds and also verify that Google Analytics was set up correctly.

Google search console helps you submit sitemaps and figure out issues on the website, which then improves your website experience and delivers more traffic to your website.

Google is one of the best sources as a directory, it is one of the major ranking factors on Google. Google my business helps google understand your local business and where you are on the map, making it a strong and easy-to-do if you want to get more traffic on your website.

It is very important to add your information correctly in the first go, Google takes a long time to review and make changes if you enter wrong information here, it can also penalize you by suspending your listing temporarily or permanently.

Google map gives out a ‘Embed a map’ feature, you can easily take this code and embed it anywhere on your website. You must also use these codes on location pages and contact pages, a link back assures Google about the authenticity of the business.

7) Add photos of your business on Google my business and drive traffic

Adding more photos of your business on Google increases your trustworthiness on Google.

Remember to include images with the right titles and alt tags of your team, inside and outside office pictures for better traction.

When someone looks up for your service online and finds your images on Google on top, those images redirect to your page and Google My Business listing, creating more traffic for your website.

Google loves when you supply it with images and will reward you for it.

8) Add the correct business trading hours on Google my business

Add your office hours on your website, possibly in your footer or contact us page and on Google as well.

Make sure these hours are correct and format is consistent across the web wherever you post them. If it’s inconsistent, Google won’t be able to connect them, which won’t help your SEO.

Correct hours across the internet helps Google understand your availability, validating your business is real and in return for validity, google sends more traffic to your website.

The more reviews you have, the easier it will be for your business to rank on Google search.

Ask your current customers to give you a review on Google.

A huge secret here and a lot of people don’t know about it. If you know your high search keywords, try to ask your customers to use those keywords when giving you a review.

12) Create an About us page using the right keywords

Using the right keywords in about can help you generate more traffic to your page.

Google looks for “about us” pages in order to further understand your business.

13) Create a blog section

If you don’t have a blog section on your website, create a blog section.

Adding a blog section will not only help you rank but also help you create content that you can share monthly with your potential & current clients.

14) Publish long-form content

Publish longer-form content with 2,000 words or more using stats, numbers, images, and infographics and relevant data if you want to rank number 1.

Longer content with data and infographics delivers more value to your readers and other content writers who can then use your stats and link your blogs on theirs, this creates more authority and brings in more traffic for your website.

15) Make sure you use 2% keyword density in your content

Keyword density is the number of times your keyword appears on a webpage.

Make sure to have about 2% keyword density for your primary and 1.5% keyword density for secondary keywords on your content. Note the number of times your keyword appears must increase if the length of your copy increases.

You can check your content’s or page’s keyword density using this free tool.

You should not stuff your keywords, a good way to judge that is by letting someone read the content and make out errors if you are not using a professional copywriter.

How does this increase traffic? The right density for the main keywords is an indication for Google to recognize that page for your specific niche, this creates more relevance and brings the right traffic to your website.

16) Update old content

Find the content which is about 12 months or older, change some of it, update stats and images if needed and republish.

Older content starts to get stale and Google pushes it down in the list, recreating and updating older content with new stats and fresher structure reintroduces your blog, bringing in more traffic to your website.

This will keep you always on top. Note, don’t change too much because that will just confuse Google.

17) Merge similar content

Sometimes you write two pieces of content that are similar. You wrote one of them about 6 months ago while the other 14 months ago. simply merge them and make a better and bigger piece of content so this new page has more links and is better.

Why? Because a better and longer piece of content with more links will attract more traffic on the blog.

18) Create And Share High-Quality Infographics

Creating really high-quality infographics and placing them inside of blogs is what Google loves.

Infographics help readers understand the content better and improve the overall user experience, and Google knows this and ranks content highly which uses infographics, bringing in more traffic to your website.

When publishing an infographic, try and make it accessible.

You can use Embed.ly to provide a free embed code for your infographic. This will make it easier for other content writers to use your infographics and link back to your website, bringing in more traffic to your website due to linking and higher authority.

20) Internally link all your pages and blogs

When publishing a blog online, make sure you internally link to at least 2 other blogs or pages.

Linking to internal pages encourages users to click on other pieces of content and read it, increasing the click-through rate.

Google loves high click-through rates and delivers more traffic for high click-through websites.

21) Link your page or blog to external pages with high DA

Always find links with high domain authority that are related to your industry and link to it.

For example, if you sell leather shoes, then a good strategy would be to link to a website that provides the best leather as a sourcing material. This helps Google understand the niche you are in.

External links are like third-party votes when you link to a higher external link in the same domain, Google recognizes this as a sign of connecting with a higher domain authority website and in turn, improves your authority as well.

22) Embed the right keywords

Use primary and secondary keywords and embed them into your content, H1, H2, page titles, and meta descriptions. Doing this helps Google understand what your webpage is about, which helps you get more traffic on the website. Essentially if google understands you better it will deliver you more traffic.

23) List on external business directories

Listing on other directories like Bing, Yahoo, Yelp, and hundreds of others helps Google find correlation and ranks your website higher.

Remember to always enter consistent information across all listings in order to rank on Google.

You can use Moz local to find out the inconsistencies in your listings.

24) Submit guest blogs to high domain authority websites in exchange for a backlink.

Backlinks are like referrals for your business. The more you have, the better it is because Google uses that as criteria to say how much legitimacy your website has.

Note, you can easily find guest blogging websites using Ahref’s backlinks report. You can learn more about how to get backlinks in detail here.

Backlinking helps your website in two ways, it builds higher authority, which then helps you rank your website higher on google organic search and it also redirects traffic from the guest blog to your page, increasing referral traffic.

25) Search for broken links and reach out to those sites

Look for broken links that mention a keyword you are targeting and do outreach.

You can reach out to the webmasters and ask them to change that link to yours since their link is broken anyhow!

Linking high-quality content on other pages helps bring more traffic to your website.

26) List your business on Social profiles

Start listing your profile on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Remember to add your website and address on these platforms with consistent formatting.

If you have multiple locations, you must make multiple facebook location extensions.

Listing your websites helps your website in two ways too, it tells Google that your business is genuine, which improves your relevance, and it also redirects users on your social channel back to your website.

27) Post on social media

Try to get social shares on social media for your website content, which increases your authority in general and makes Google understand the business is trustworthy. If you have substantial traffic on social media, sharing links to your blogs and offers on your social media helps you drive that traffic onto your website.

28) Remove heavy images from your website

Heavier images make your website bulky, which reduces the speed. As speed is a big ranking factor for Google, you want to compress these images ASAP!

Use Screaming frog to check how many images are over the 100kb limit and see if you can reduce them.

29) Rename all the images on your website.

Search engines can’t process images like the human brain. Instead, they rely on what we feed them, which includes the image name and alt tags.

If you are on WordPress, you can go to the images and use your keyword in the file name and alt tags, just don’t keyword stuff because Google will penalize you.

Renaming images will help Google to show these images on Google search to users who might be looking for a similar service, users will then be directed onto your website via image search.

30) Use high-quality original images on your website.

Bad images ruin the UI and hurt your SEO.Google has gotten smarter to read and understand what is on the image quality, it can differentiate between a pixelated low-quality image compared to a crisp image.

Also, using original images that are not used anywhere on the internet also helps in SEO as Google prefers unique and original content.

Using good and authentic images will increase your traffic significantly.
